I was inspired by the original name of the state Johor, known as Ujung Tanah, meaning the ‘Land’s End’. It indeed is the last piece of land of the Asian continent and forms some sort of boundary, separating cultivated land from the unknown. My idea was to use scrap iron in order to form a structure along the coastline of the Johor state, resembling both a gate and a barricade. The artwork was finally built on the Puteri Harbour site, with an open gate facing towards the Equator – to signify that Johor had always adopted and would continue to cherish a welcoming “open door” policy towards the outside world. The undulating rhythm of the barricade also shows a continuous pattern, creating a sense of movement and incessant progression, as a symbol to the future of Johor.
靈感來自柔佛州的原名，即Ujung Tanah，意為地面上的盡頭。它確實是亞洲大陸的最南端的一片土地，形成了某種邊界。我的想法是使用廢鐵，以便在柔佛州的海岸線形成一個結構，類似於門和堡壘。作品建在公主港的場地上，朝向赤道的開放式大門 – 意指柔佛州一直採用並將繼續對外開放的歡迎“大門開放”的政策。堡壘的起伏節奏呈營造出一種生動感，象徵柔佛州的未來。
